Discovering new ways & sharing tips with the community

When I was 12, my female classmates started revving-up their appearances.  I was always jealous when I could hear girls with long, fake, hot-pink nails tapping the pieces of acrylic on the desk behind me.  Also, I recall when girls began dying and highlighting their hair.  Like magic, they were brunettes one day and blondes the next.

I constantly begged my mother to allow me to partake in similar activities, because I wanted be like the other 7th grade girls.  But she would not budge.  She used words like, ‘unnecessary’ and ‘outrageous’ to describe those things.  I firmly disagreed.

Although my mother strongly resisted the new-age, hair and nail transformation, she allowed me to do something none of the other girls did.  I got to take monthly visits to the spa.

When I turned 12, my mother decided I needed to start taking care of my skin.  Most people could epitomize the years between 11 and 13 as the special ages when acne had the potential to make your face and body look unrecognizable.  My mother witnessed other girls my age attempting to correct the problem with globs of heavy makeup, which ultimately made it much worse.  She hated the idea of my sister and me going through that of self-torture, so it was off the spa we went!

I got my first facial that year.  I remember the strong aromas of eucalyptus and chamomile, and the peaceful sounds of wind chimes that made the soothing, dark room even more tranquil.   After the facial, a few products were recommended, and I have kept up a daily regimen of washing my face ever since.

I am very thankful for my mother.   She introduced my sister and me to a fabulous sector of girl-world that we never could have come in to contact at such a young age.  Additionally, girls begin to discover this hidden haven around the time they start high-school, so it is typically a common interest girls share together.

Spas have become more sophisticated over the years.  Not only do they include a wide variety of facials and other, microdermabrasion skin treatments, but also services like massages and pedicures are available for everyone, including men.  Dermatologists have started recommending anti-aging facials over Botox, and beginning at a young age is a great preventative tactic.

Products and services at a spa can save your livelihood.  Whether you want to relax after a stressful day, or boost your self-confidence by pampering your face and body, you should utilize a spa.  Spa treatments do wonders for your mood and energy level, and leave you feeling great.
